Sailing and Boating the Maine Coast

About John Tarbox

A Maine native, John has been around boats for as long as he can remember. As a youth he would often row skiffs, fish off the dock, and go out with relatives who fished and caught lobsters.

John?s first boat was a 13 foot Boston Whaler which he got while still in high school, and which he still has. Needless to say, it has seen many trips from Wiscasset to Boothbay Harbor, Bath and throughout the area.

Later as a teenager he took sailing lessons, and has been hooked on sailing ever since. His first sailboat was a Cheoy Lee Bermuda 30 ketch which he purchased in the late 1980s. Other boats he has owned include an O?day DaySailor which he still sails and a Rainbow 24.

Currently John?s primary boat is a 38' LeComte which he purchased in Cape May, NJ this spring and sailed home to Maine by himself. While the boat was in excellent shape when he acquired it, he has it inside this winter where he is working on making it just the way he wants it.

John has been active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary since the early 1990s, and currently enjoys working with the Coast Guard station in Boothbay Harbor. John particularly enjoys working with the boating public to help them understand how to enjoy the water safely.

Another hobby John enjoys is Amateur (Ham) Radio, and John holds the call sign WA1KLI. John has a ham radio on his boat so he can enjoy both his hobbies at once!

Bristol 32Professionally John has worked with computers all his life. His vast experience as a programmer has found an ideal creative outlet with the custom features of BoatMaine.us.
