Robbie that is so neat. What a great find. NICE JOB. I will add it to my book of FAQs for folks that call me on Bustins Island or are looking for property. |

I found the image from the exhibition and am pleased to report that the building is still in existence and looks very much the same. It is a summer cottage located at the southwestern tip of Bustins Island in Casco Bay, Maine. |

I spent summers as a child on Bustins Island I stayed in The Berries and The Port through friends of my mother. I'd love to bring my young boys to explore the tidal pools around the Nubble. Rode on Bud Nickerson's boat etc.. I'm seeking a week-2 week rental for summer 2009. Can anyone help me with any contact names/numbers/emails? BridgetRoy@aol.com Thanks! |

Wow interesting that you are writing a book on Perkins. I will try to help you out with information on that. I have a cottage on Bustins that originally was a sailing camp for boys, we are the fifth generation to be on the Island. About four years ago I became a real estate agent and have really learned a lot about the history on Bustins. Sandy |

Since my previous note about the cottage designed by Dwight H. Perkins on Bustins Island, I have discovered the original owners name. It was Ella T. Gould and she built the cottage in 1888. Does it still exist and who are the present owners? Thanks, WRH |

In c. 1886-88 Architect D. H. Perkins, then at MIT, designed a 2 story summer cottage on Bustin's island. It was illustrated in the Chicago Architectural Club Exhib. Catalog in 1902. I suspect, and hope, it is still there. I teach at the Art Inst. of Chicago and am writing a book on Perkins. Can anyone tell me about this building? |
